SCOPE OF INDEX: A subject index of local and national Ukrainian American activities as reported in The Ukrainian Weekly. The Ukrainian Weekly is the Sunday, English language edition of Svoboda, the oldest Ukrainian newspaper. Included are all news items affecting the Ukrainian American community; reports of Ukrainian political prisoners in the Soviet Union; cultural, religious, and human rights activities; and news of prominent Ukrainian Americans. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A book form index. The 1978 edition had 96 pages measuring 6x9 inches. Entries are arranged in a single alphabetical order with both subject headings and personal names interfiled. Within each subject, the entries are arranged in alphabetical order according to the first word of the entry (instead of chronological order). Entries consist of the headline or brief description of the article followed by the month, day, and page(s) where the article appeared. Accompanying photos or illustrations are noted. |
SIZE OF INDEX: The 1978 edition contains over 2000 entries arranged under some 800 subject headings. |
