AVAILABILITY: Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used at the Utah State Historical Society. |
SCOPE OF INDEX: The index, begun in 1946, was designed to supplement the extensive newspaper clipping file. At first, each article placed in the clipping file was also noted in the index under the appropriate subject headings. But now the clipping file has become so enormous that this practice has been stopped, and many later cards simply have the notation "SEE CLIPPING FILE". The index still serves to guide the user to other periodical and magazine literature not found in the clipping file. The index also includes other local newspaper, but inclusion and dates are inconsistent. Subject areas covered by the index are those which relate to Utah history, Mormon history, Western history, Indian history, and related areas. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: This is a 3x5 card file index with multiple entries typed on each card. The entry consists of the headline, followed by the name of the source (newspaper name), the month, day, year, and page. |
SIZE OF INDEX: Around 100,000 cards in the current index. |
