AVAILABILITY: This is a mimeographed book form index. 250 copies were published, but the book is now out of print. Photocopies are available through the author. Write for prices. The index is available for public use at the Virgin Islands Bureau of Libraries and Museums. |
SCOPE OF INDEX: This index is a companion study to another publication written by Dr. Vaughn, entitled AN ALMANAC FOR ST. THOMAS AIRPORT PLANNERS. Its purpose was to make information available so that the subject of the St. Thomas airport could be more intelligently evaluated and so that more significant and intelligent comparisions could be made. The index is divided into six parts: AIRCRAFT, AIRLINES, AIRPORTS (FOREIGN), AIRPORTS (ST. CROIX), AIRPORTS (ST. THOMAS), and AIRPORTS (VIRGIN ISLANDS, GENERAL). Each of these six parts are further subdivided by more specific subjects. A seventh section of the index is an appendix which contains reproductions of letters to the editor, excerpts from public hearings, and other material on the topic. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A book form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. Within each subject, the entries are arranged in chronological order. Each entry begins with the month, day, and year. This is followed by the headline (or photo caption), and abbreviation for the newspaper, and the page number. Additional information not given in the headline may then be appended to the entry by using parenthesis. |
SIZE OF INDEX: There are 69 pages in the entire report. 31 of these pages are the actual index to newspaper articles. |
