SCOPE OF INDEX:  An English-language index to Pravda, the official newspaper of the Soviet Communist Party. Entry statements covered both foreign and domestic (USSR) affairs. Extensive cross references led the user to related or more specific subjects. All Party and government affairs, economic news, local news, and events of significance are indexed under both the appropriate general headings and a geographical heading. In the Personal Names section, the careers of Soviet Officials may be followed in great detail. Not only national leaders, but those at the district and plant-manager levels are included in the index.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The paper edition was printed on 8½x11 inch pages, in two column format. The index was divided into two sections: GENERAL SUBJECTS and PERSONAL NAMES. Each entry consisted of a capsulized description of the article, along with the day, month, year, page, and column where the information or name appears. An asterisk after the citation indicates that a photograph, cartoon, or other illustration accompanies the article. The microfilm edition was COM-generated on 4x6 inch microfiche (98 frames per fiche) and distributed in the negative format.
